Best Organic Lip Balm
Have you been on the hunt for the Best Organic Lip Balm? I was too, and that’s why I’ve put together this review of Sierra Bees Lip Balm just for you.
Awhile back, my family and I were on the hunt for a new, favorite lip balm. Never having stuck to a certain brand in the past, we were determined to find one that we liked and could purchase consistently. I was tired of using lip balm that didn’t moisturize no matter how many times we applied. My boys don’t like anything super sticky or shiny.
I had looked up some recipes on Pinterest to make our own lip balm and gave that a try. The first time it went ok, but then I realized I needed a little more coconut oil to help the balm go on more smoothly. The consistency was too hard to get it out of little containers. It was fun to tackle that project, but we were looking for a lip balm with simple ingredients that we could purchase without breaking the bank.
That is when I first found Sierra Bees Lip Balm on iHerb. I was placing a small order and needed just a couple more dollars to get to my free shipping, and we also needed more lip balm for the family, so I stuck that combo pack in my shopping cart and haven’t looked back since.
Sierra Bees Lip Balm Review
I’m going to break this down into a few categories. Feel free to jump around by clicking on the following, which will take you directly to that section:
Price
A combo pack of 8 Sierra Bees Lip Balms costs $8 dollars on iHerb. With tax, it broke down to a little over $1 a tube. The price for an 8 pack on Amazon is currently $10, which puts it at $1.25 a tube. Still an excellent price. There are close to 200 reviews on Amazon giving it 4.5 stars out of 5!
The price was appealing, but the ingredients really helped win me over.
Sierra Bees Lip Balm Ingredients
The ingredients are so simple. Each tube is based with these Organic/Non GMO ingredients:
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- Beeswax
- Sunflower Seed Oil
- Non- GMO Vitamin E Oil
The Sierra Bees Organic lip balms combo pack comes with 8 different tubes, each containing specialized ingredients, which are all organic/non-gmo.
The 8 different flavors are:
- Cocoa Butter
- Honey
- Mint Burst
- Pomegranate
- Shea Butter and Argan Oil
- Tamanu and Tea Tree
- Unflavored
- Creme Brulee
The individual flavors are created using organic oil and extracts. Some of our family is sensitive to soy. We love that the base of these lip balms does not contain soybean oil.
We are a family of 5, so we love that it comes in different flavors. Everybody has their own preference, and it’s easier to keep track of ownership. “Who had Pomegranate?” is much easier to figure out than “Who left their lip balm on the counter?”.
Consistency and Quality
We love that Sierra Bees Lip Balm goes on smooth and it sticks. I used to use straight coconut oil but it needed a stronger base and the other components from the beeswax and vitamin E oil to help it to stick.
The boys all carry a lip balm in their coat pocket and when they remember to use it, they are not suffering from red/cracked lips. I keep a tube in my purse, by my bed, and in the junk drawer.
It’s not like Vaseline— you know that feeling when it’s sticky and you are constantly pulling your hair off of your sticky lips?? It’s good quality but not overbearing.
The only downside I can think of to this lip balm is that it can get soft in the summer. If you are out and about or at the pool, it’s best to keep your lip balm in the shade to give it some protection. The beeswax and vitamin E oil help protect my lips from the sun, but I don’t want to put the entire tube on all at once from it getting too soft!
Ease of Purchasing
The only places I have seen Sierra Bees Organic Lip Balm are iHerb and on Amazon. It’s not a “well known” product like Burt’s Bees or Carmex.
The good news is that it’s extremely easy to get your hands on! Like I mentioned, we order it from iHerb when I am doing my other shopping. There are almost 8,000 reviews on this product on iHerb. It has a 4.5 star rating.
The other place you can easily grab this lip balm is on Amazon.
Amazon also provides other options besides the variety pack. If you have a certain flavor you absolutely love, you can get a multipack of that flavor. They have 4 packs of single flavors available. It’s not as economical but if you only prefer a certain flavor, it may be a great option for you. Here is the 4 pack of Pomegranate.
Sierra Bees vs. Burt’s Bees
You’ve seen both Sierra Bees lip balm and Burt’s Bees lip balm in every store. They’re both natural, organic lip balms. So what’s the difference and how do you choose?
Different Ingredients
Like I said before, and listed on the iHerb website, Sierra Bees lip balm has 4 simple ingredients: Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Beeswax, Sunflower Seed Oil, Non- GMO Vitamin E Oil.
Listed on the Burt’s Bees website, their lip balm has 10 ingredients: cera alba (beeswax, cire d’abeille), cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, mentha piperita (peppermint) oil, lanolin, tocopherolrosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf extract, glycine soja (soybean) oil, canola oil (huile de colza), limonene.
I prefer the simplicity of the Sierra Bees lip balm ingredients.
Price Difference
We go through lip balm so fast. Whether it’s winter and our lips are dry, or summer and we need the extra protection from the sun, my family and I are using lip balm year round.
Sierra Bees is a cheaper option to Burt’s Bees, anywhere I’ve seen them listed. On Amazon, a 4 pack of Sierra Bees is currently listed for $7.00, whereas a 4 pack of Burt’s Bees is listed for $8.24. This is another reason we prefer Sierra Bees since our family uses lip balm year round.
Which “feel” do I like?
Both Sierra Bees and Burt’s Bees lip balms protect our lips from the elements. They are both great organic options for lip balm.
Everyone likes the different “feels” of lip balm products. I personally prefer Sierra Bees lip balm because it glides on so smoothly. It feels great going on, and it isn’t sticky, just moisturizing.
The Bottom Line of our Sierra Bees Lip Balm Review
