3 Tips for your Nightly Cleaning Routine
It’s the end of the day and you are exhausted.
You just want to put your feet up and call it a day, but deep down you know that tomorrow will start better with the help of a few good choices that you make tonight.
Before you get annoyed, start scrolling social media, and stop reading this post, let’s keep it real here with these tips for your nightly cleaning routine!
01| Less is more.
You are going to be much more successful knowing that your nightly cleaning routine is in fact possible.
Keep it simple, sticking to just a few priorities that mean the most to you.
02| Be consistent.
Don’t let the exhaustion of the day trump your success on your homemaking tasks.
You will rest better knowing you got your nightly cleaning routine accomplished.
03| Be realistic.
Some nights you might have a sick kid or an outing that carries over much into your bedtime hours.
Those nights happen. Do what you can and start fresh the next day. Don’t expect perfection.
Now that we have a few general tips to help anyone excel in their nightly cleaning routine, let’s take a look at what tasks you might want to include in yours.

01| Fold throw blankets.
Check the couches and chairs and see if any blankets are wadded up in a ball or tossed aside on the floor.
If they are, fold them up and you’ll be set for the morning.
02| Straighten seating and throw pillows.
This could be done constantly at our house. Rather than fighting it all day, I like to get them settled at the end of the day so when I wake up and walk out to the living room, I feel a sense of peace.
03| Start the dishwasher.
Some people prefer waking up to an empty dishwasher. I see the value in that as well.
For us, we usually run the dishwasher at night because it’s kind of loud and the kitchen can get pretty warm.
Emptying that in the morning frees up space for the dishes to go throughout the day.
04| Wipe down kitchen counters.
Nobody wants to wake up to a crumby counter.
05| Prepare coffee pot/ tea/ protein shake for the morning.
Whatever your drink of choice is for the morning, get your supplies ready. That extra step the night before makes your morning much more relaxing.
06| Sort out laundry for an easy start in the morning.
By having your laundry sorted and even sitting in the washing machine the night before gives you the opportunity to get a load started in a matter of seconds.
It’s totally worth it.
07| Set out breakfast supplies.
What’s for breakfast? Do you like to make a hot breakfast? Do you prefer cereal? A quick protein bar?
Whatever it is, set out your pans/dishes/supplies the night before, which will allow you to get right into your breakfast duties.
08| Wipe out the kitchen sink.
This may be something you do after cleaning up your dinner. If for some reason you didn’t get to it, take the extra minute to wipe out your sink and empty your drains so you wake up to a fresh sink in the morning!
That’s it! This simple evening cleaning routine isn’t complicated and it doesn’t take much time.
By being better prepared for the morning, you rest better.
It’s one of the few things you can control throughout your day!
